Dan
Collins is an L.A. artist. Although only 26 years old, he seems not to
be influenced by his predecessors.....but more to influence the people
he's surrounded by (amazingly he doesn't know this, so don't tell him.)
Inspirational and charismatic he is most comfortable squishing paint across
canvas....in all the colors Mr. Grumbacher has to offer...except brown.
However he displays equal aptitude for almost any medium he sets out to
work in. Polychrome plaster, skateboard decks, automobiles(real and scale
model) acting, bowling and even his own line of clothes and self promotional
material. Dan's twisted, wry, and subcutaneous sense of humor and wit
permeate his works, usually containing a rebellious subject matter, a
hot rod culture gone feral, a purposeful yet outcast youth living on the
edge. A milieu festooned with outrageous custom cars, scantily clad femme
fatales, Las Vegas amok ala Bad Seed, and whimsical strokes of bad luck-
all that spells DANGER daddy-o.
And
if you throw into that pot a few green martians, UFO's, and half a ton
of sex appeal....you will inevitably arrive at mr. Collins' unique sense
of vision, and understanding of the world. Daniel seems possessed of an
unearthly yet worldly understanding.....the kind expected from someone
twice his years. He is reflective of ourselves, our bad ways, a few of
our sins and vices, and he makes us see with humor- a sense of"What
the hell, it's just livin' baby" "Here it is...have fun while
you can." However Dan is not all about just fun. All through, he
maintains his obligation to his work. A deep running commitment, like
a lifers stint in Leavenworth-albeit with a bit more freedom. Keep your
eye on this young man-he will make a noise one day and it will be one
hell of a party!
