Born
five minutes after New Year's Day in Jupiter, Florida, Kalynn Campbell grew
up a stone's throw away from the headquarters of the National Enquirer.
At 13, he was given a stack of underground comics and saw a Dwayne Hanson
exhibition, experiences that profoundly changed his life. He pursued a career
in art, and found himself airbrushing motorcycle tanks for the Outlaw Motorcycle
Club before moving to San Francisco in 1981 to attend the Academy of Art
College. In 1989, Campbell moved to Los Angeles and settled into the tasks
of painting and drawing. Since then, he has worked on hundreds of illustration
projects for everyone from Tom Petty, to biker soundtrack guru Davie Allan,
to GQ Magazine, and has seen his "game" paintings included in
two museum exhibitions, including the pivotal Kustom Kulture Show. Campbell's
collectors include such notables as Nicolas Cage and the NBC Censor's Office.
He recently finished illustrating the Epitaph Records website, and a book
of his game paintings is in the works. |
